Initial idea

IDEA

My initial idea was to create a crime thriller. I was thinking of creating a bank heist. It was gonna be like a group of robbers stealing some money from the bank. But we thought that was too mainstream and didnt have a proper location to film a bank heist.

My second idea was to create a heist but this time we were robbing a bank car which was containing books instead of money. We choose books instead of money because we thought in that period of time in the films books are more valuable than money. But i also scrap that idea since it was quiet dangerous and we think we wont be able to make it long enough to cover the 2 minute time.

My third idea was to make a deal with some VIP (mafia) to trade a lot of money for a few books. Then when the VIP got in the car and drove for a bit there will be a traitor in the car which kills everyone and steal the books from the car and then get changed to disguise. Then the traitor will then find his get away car and drove off.I think that should be my final idea and it should be long enough to cover those 2 minutes

The third idea was scrapped because the VIP car was not available for us to use and i think it would be too complicated. So I've decided to use a less VIP car such as a silver BMW instead of a black Mercedes S class. But we are trying to stick to the same story line, such as there is still a traitor in the film but there wont be as much killing and it will be less climatic.

During new year we start filming. We try some of the camera angles and look at the lighting. We did some test shots instead because the prop wasn't ready on the day.

29 January. We start the filming seriously. We film for 3 consecutive hours in the hot sun. We did achieve a lot of new camera angles which help us to put more detail into the film. But this time we didnt have sunny so we need to improvise by using ohm instead and not letting the camera see me.

Dexter Opening - Shape Theory

Dexter Opening Credits

In this film we learn about how shapes effect our view and what we think about each section of the film

In this film opening there was no blood or any living thing being hurt but they use shapes to create a sensation of someone being hurt in the video. Each of the section in the opening gives the viewers a perspective of how he torture his victims even though there was nothing being harm in the scene.

In this scene we can see him smiling after slapping the mosquito. This shows that he feels good killing other animals and human.

In this scene we see him bleeding from his blade shaving his beard. after he pick up a piece of napkin and clean up his blood it shows the blood entering the napkin creating sensation of someone being hurt.

This part where he cut a piece of meat for his breakfast. It represent how he cut and torture his victims and how he rip his victims meat into pieces. In the next scene it shows him eating the piece of meat he cooked. This means that he is enjoying the meal just like he enjoyed killing and torturing people.

In this part it shows Dexter breaking an egg for his breakfast. It also represent a person's head being break when he killed them. Also after he finish frying his egg it shows him cutting the egg, It represent a human eye being cut apart. After that part there are ketchup splashing in front of the camera which represent human blood splashing when he kills them.

The way he hold the coffee maker or what ever it is represent how her torture people by drowning them. There is a evidence for this when there are bubbles coming out from the drink which represent the victim drowning in water.

When hes cutting the orange it represent the way hes cut his victim head and tear the brain out. There are evidence to support this when he squeezed the juice out of the orange but the orange looks red like blood and brain coming out.
This shows when he is tying his shoes for work. But in other perspective is it shows how hard he strangled his victims or how hard he tie them before murdering them.

Heat Shoot out

Heat Shootout scene

1. The character just walked in the bank. The camera focuses on the man's face panning right with close up while he walks, also the zoom stay the same while the man calmly walk toward the camera to a extreme closeup to show the stress in his eye while he looks left and right for guards. It also create stress to the viewer that something intense is going to happen.

2. The robber just got his gun drawn at the guard. This is a over the shoulder shot. It shows the guard stopping in front of the robber as he yelled. It shows the viewer that the guard is scared and stop moving.

3. The robber gets on top of the shelf as the camera follows him in the back with over the shoulder shot and a high angle-low angle showing the people in the bank fearing the robber as he command everyone in the bank to get down and stay still. This creates intensity to the viewer that someone might stand up and fight the robber or the robber is going to shoot someone that is not following orders.

4. This scene shows 2 undercover policemen running across the street. It is shot with extreme long shot mixed with blocking.  It shows that the road was very busy at the time and there are alot of people around there. It makes the viewer thinks that the cop was struggling trying to get to the point of the robber.

5. This scene shows the civilian ducking and running in panic due to the gun noise. It is shot with a extreme high angle. It shows the viewer that the gunshot was heard all over and the people around there didnt know what was going on and started running in panic trying to get out of the shooting area.

6. This shot is happening between the undercover police was chasing the robber. This shot was taken with close up to show the intensie face that the cop is trying to get the civilian to safety while he run through the people who are trying to run away from the scene. It shows the viewer the intense the cop was going through at the moment

7. It shows the civilian running and hiding behind covers with their hands over their ears. It is taken at a eye level. It shows the viewer that there are many people in that area that are scared and trying to get out while the police try to kill the robbers.

8. Shows that he is leaving the building and almost making it to the car safely but he ran into the police across the street first. IT uses close up camera angle to show his smile that shows that he is happy making it out while not being captured or notice. It shows the audience that he is happy but it shows that the character doesnt know that the police are just right behind them.

1 minute film challenge

1 minute film challenge

This film consists of 3 people, me,nana, micky and eye. I was the cameraman and nana was the director and eye was the main actoress. We choose to replicate a movie scene from Annabelle. The reason we choose to do this because the movie plot was interesting and there are a lot of micro element we can play with such as sound which creates a sensation of fear.

We face some problems while filming such as there were no dark room in the 6th form center and it was hard to create a scary feeling in the film. Also the in the trailer it was taken at house and public places which was hard for us to recreate the scene since the only place we have was the school. Also some we need to create our own sound effect since there was only bad sound effect on the internet such as rusty door noise and creepy doll noise. Another problem we encounter is we didn't know how to use the premier program since i use iMovie all along and didnt know how the new program work. It delayed us during the editing for almost an hour. we manage to fix this by doing some research and asking our teacher for help

When we start filming we apply the camera rules to the film such as closeup,180 degree view, and angle shot. We use 180 degree view when eye and Micky was having a conversation and angle shot when eye was dragged by the ghost which create confusion and stress to the viewer. Also we didn't use any stabilizer which would cause a unstable scene which would create a sense of danger and confusion to the viewer.

In conclusion, i find this piece of work very fun and I would like to work in teams again because the work can be spread evenly along the people in the group and with more people, more ideas can be made which would make the film better quality for the viewers. Also working in teams helps by providing equipment such as cameras and microphones. I was the one with the camera and the microphones while Nana was the editor and Eye and Micky was the actor in the film.
